I’m a homeschooling mother of two beautiful little girls. My initial introduction to BJJ came through my husband. We both enjoyed watching MMA fights, and I would also attend his training sessions. After observing a kids class, I realized how it could offer a small person like myself the upper hand in a self-defense situation. I joined in June of 2011, and just two weeks into my training, I fell in love with BJJ. I was surprised by the benefits it had on my overall health and physique.
Prior to joining BJJ, it had been ten years since I had been physically active, and it was beginning to show. I suffered from back pain due to weak muscles, and after only three weeks, I was free of pain and much stronger. The physical challenge and mental exercise that BJJ provides are both incredibly stimulating and maintain my interest. However, it is the satisfaction which comes from applying an armbar to someone who out-muscles me that keeps me coming back.
When I’m not obsessing about a new BJJ technique, you’ll find me rowing on Ladybird Lake, running, dancing, or preparing gourmet meals for my wonderful family.
