My kids and I started training with Mr. Crus a few years ago and we couldn't be happier with the program. As a school teacher, I have seen the difference Jiu-Jitsu training can make in a child's life. Jiu-Jitsu teaches mind-body awareness through real world training with a variety of opponents. The classes are not only fun and a great workout, but they help improve focus and control, develop confidence, and foster a positive attitude. Mr. Crus is very committed to building a community and fostering a safe and positive learning environment for children and adults alike. I highly recommend anyone interested in finding out more about Jiu-Jitsu to come try a class and discover the benefits of training with a group of people committed to helping each other grow and evolve in the sport of Jiu-Jitsu.
Thank you Brandon! Your perspective as a children guide is always important to us.
My husband and I started BJJ with Joao last winter and we absolutely loved every moment. Training challenged us mentally, physically, and strengthened our relationship. We were challenged as a couple and as individuals. We always talked about our classes and looked forward to exercising the application on each other.Joao's dojo was a wonderful experience that we hope to be back for. Everyone was incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely cared about contributing to each other's success. Every person exercised humility and great leadership throughout our drills and training!Joao is a phenomenal leader who I really enjoyed learning from. He constantly challenged every part of me and I consider him a wonderful person. His energy makes something inside of you wish to be your very best self.I strongly encourage everyone to experience the BJJ lifestyle and challenge your relationship in Joao's dojo!We will be back!
Thank you for your review Ashlee. We are missing both of you here.
The best way to lose weight without starving yourself! I Personally lost 50 lbs, while learning how to defend myself!
Joao and the other black belts are great and qualified teachers!
A little over a year ago my son had just finished almost 6 months of occupational therapy. He made great advances in his therapy but we felt that he needed more than what his OT offered. During my research I kept coming across Jiu-Jitsu as a real option that could fill the gaps that neither OT, nor his parents, could offer. The changes we have witnessed have been both apparent and subtle. We have seen changes in his confidence and self-awareness…this doesn’t even touch on the actual Jiu-Jitsu skills that he’s learning. Joao is not just teaching kids how to defend themselves, he’s coaching kids the fine art of responsibility, humility and communication. Saturday’s in house tournament (held every 2-3 months) earned our son his 4th stripe and he couldn’t be more excited. After watching my son for 6 months I decided to take the journey of Jiu-Jitsu along with my kid. I’ve been training with Joao and his instructors for 6 months now and it’s been an enormous reality check. Every class I walk away physically exhausted, mentally rejuvenated and very humbled. Keep up the great work.
Thank your for your review and the opportunity to work with you and your family, Jonathan!
I appreciated it!
I’ve been training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu under Joao Crus for 4.5 years and my experience has been great!Jiu-jitsu has helped me exceed in multiple aspects of life. Importantly, Jiu-jitsu has benefited me academically due to the level of quick analytical thinking that’s required during a match. In a match you are forced to make instant decisions that can majorly impact the ultimate outcome. When this quick thinking is reinforced over years of training, you find that the same skill can be applied to any challenge you encounter in life. This skill is extremely beneficial in academics because many times you are forced to make quick but accurate analytical decisions. Jujitsu (unlike other sports) is not linear, meaning you aren’t training one or two parts of your body. Jujitsu works-out/strengthens your entire body (head to toe) making you truly stronger. This strength translates to any physical encounter or endeavor.
Jacob, It's an honor to be your instructor. I am very proud of you.
My son (age 12) and I began taking jiu-jitsu classes from Joao Crus and his instructors about a month ago.Overall, we're both very impressed. The quality of instruction is top-notch, and we like the classes on Monday and Wednesday evening.I think their introductory offer of a private class, weekly group classes, and a uniform for $99 is a really good deal. We've only gone to their southwest Austin location, but I've heard from other parents that their Dripping Spring location is also pretty good. It's always been a dream of mine to get my black belt, so perhaps in a few years it may become a reality. : )
Thank you Todd for the opportunity to share what I know with your family!
I'm happy to provide this review for Joao Crus and his Jiu-Jitsu school! We enrolled our 5-year old boy in Mr. Crus's school earlier this year and we have nothing but positive things to say about our experience with the instructors, classmates, curriculum and business practices at the school. The classroom environment has been non-threatening and inviting since day 1. Our son loves interacting with the other students but more importantly Mr. Crus has a way with kids that noticeably advances important life skills - like attention to detail, active listening and hard work. In short, our son is learning while still having fun. While this school has proven to be especially beneficial for our son, I would be remiss to limit this review to just the children's programs. Mr. Crus offers expert classroom instruction as well as private lessons for adults of all ages.As a 5 1/2 year dedicated (but rusty) practitioner of traditional martial training (Hung Gar) I was looking for a school that embraces those qualities that would make our son a better person.. I'm very happy to report that Mr. Crus's Jiu-Jitsu school promotes exactly those qualities that I was looking for.Watching our son's classes has subsequently renewed my passion for the martial arts and my thirst for martial training. Consequently, I have enrolled myself in private instruction at the school and am increasingly dedicating myself to its many positive benefits. For those who are especially interested in the fighting arts, you can be assured that what is taught is technically sound and effective. This should be no surprise since Mr. Crus's Jiu-Jitsu lineage comes in part from Carlson Gracie himself. For anyone considering martial training for themselves or for someone they know, I would highly recommend that you take advantage of the opportunity to receive one of the free trial classes that are frequently offered or to just come in and watch a class for yourself. I did, and I'm very thankful for having done so.
Thank you Cort for the opportunity to work with you and your son!
I have been training 1:1 with Joao for about 20 months. I enjoy the details of the moves and his remarkable way of explaining and showing how the art of jiu-jitsu fits together.
Being a mixed martial artist, I have discovered that the ground game is essential, especially being a woman in our society today.
I pray I will never have to use my skills in a real situation, but I feel confident I would respond without hesitation, mostly due to João method of instruction and leadership.
Above all, we have grown together developing a mutual respect for each other that keeps me hitting the mats. Thank you for your knowledge, mentorship and friendship.
Thank you Norma! It has been a great journey and I am thankful to have you as a student and friend.
Having two girls enrolled in this program was a worry for me in the beginning.I was nervous about my kids getting hurt due to lack of supervision. I am very impressed with the amount of care taken to ensure my kids safety. Not only are they learning self defense, the instructors find creative ways to make the lessons fun and enjoyable. The girls love coming here and tell all their friends about the things they learn and get to do while in class. Several of their friends have since joined, now Mondays and Wednesdays are their favorite days of the week.We were given the opportunity to try the class for free and after the second lesson, both girls said they wanted to keep coming. Best of all, they both get a chance to test their skills and get rewarded for their efforts.
Thank you for your trust on our program Eric. I appreciate the opportunity to work with you and your family.
After researching different schools for my son who wanted to learn karate, I found Joao Crus Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy.I thought Jiu-Jitsu would be a good discipline for him to learn. He loved the first class he attended and now he looks forward to every practice. The school not only teaches Jiu-Jitsu, it's teaching my son life lessons he uses at home and school. I would recommend this school to any parent who is considering their children to learn Jiu-Jitsu.
Thank you Richard for the opportunity to work with your son. He is a talented child.
